Ting n Ting - Merton Abbey Mills, Wimboldon

April 05, 2016

While we where in London at the weekend, we decided to go for a lovely long walk in the sunshine. We ended up at Merton Abbey Mills which has lots of little stalls and shops filled with little treasures.

Once we had browsed what was on offer at the shops and stalls, it was  definitely time for lunch! The Mills boast a selection of cafes and restaurants offering all sorts of food from Thai to the good old fry up, but we were in search of something different... and gluten free of course!

It was then that we laid eyes on Ting n Ting (what a fantastic name!). Ting n Ting have the most amazing selection of proper Caribbean grub! I am quarter Trinidadian and I have never eaten at a Caribbean restaurant before and it was a lovely experience.

When we arrived we told the restaurant that Miles needed a gluten free meal and the chef put our minds at rest (watch out for the obvious glutenous foods such as pasties and dishes with soy sauce added). Unfortunately I was so engrossed in eating I had forgotten to take any pictures of what we had ordered but it was amazing and very reasonably priced too!

I went for a vegetable curry which had sweet potato, plantain, okra (ladies fingers), pumpkin, peas, carrots and tomato and a serving of rice and peas.It was delicious, and I will definitely try to re-create it at home!

Miles was very excited as he chose the jerk chicken, which he had never had before! Apparently the jerk chicken at Ting n Ting has been featured on Ready, Steady Cook. It also came with rice and peas and Miles was very pleased with the dish. The chef even showed Miles the BBQ they use to grill it with!

All in all the visit to Ting n Ting was a great success, we all had full bellies when we left and big smiles on our faces!

Thank you Ting n Ting for your lovely taste of the Caribbean!
